Q.Food Plots for Wildlife
Do I need a soil test for food plots?
A.
Yes — a $10-20 soil test prevents wasting hundreds of dollars on the wrong amendments. Most untested woods soils are pH 5.0-5.5, well below the 6.0-6.5 most food plot species need. Lime is typically the highest-leverage amendment, and you can't dose it correctly without a test.
