Q.Farm Pond Management
How do cover crops on pond banks improve water quality?
A.
Bank cover (native grasses, cover crops, riparian buffers) filters runoff before it enters the pond, reducing sediment loading and nutrient input. Mowed bare banks shed water, sediment, and fertilizer directly into the pond. Establishing a 10-20 foot vegetated buffer around the pond perimeter improves water quality measurably within 1-2 seasons.
Cross-app to Bield: Fish water quality content.
