Q.Cover Crops
Does buckwheat really suppress weeds?
A.
Yes — buckwheat grows fast (germinates in 3-5 days, canopy closure in 4-6 weeks), produces dense shade that prevents weed seedlings from establishing, and releases allelopathic compounds. It's a top summer-window weed suppressor between spring and fall cash crops. Doesn't fix nitrogen but adds organic matter.
