Q.Soybean Production
What is iron deficiency chlorosis in soybeans?
A.
IDC is a yellowing of soybean leaves caused by inability to absorb iron in high-pH (alkaline), often calcareous soils — especially common in parts of North Dakota, Minnesota, and Iowa. Resistant varieties are essential in IDC-prone fields. Chelated iron foliar sprays can help but resistant variety selection is the long-term fix.
Variety review pages cover IDC-resistant varieties.
