Q.Pigs & Poultry
What is the best dual-purpose chicken breed?
A.
Rhode Island Red, Buff Orpington, Plymouth Rock, and Wyandotte are top dual-purpose breeds — they lay 200-280 eggs/year and produce decent meat carcasses (4-6 lbs). Best for homestead operations wanting both eggs and meat from one flock. Pure meat breeds (Cornish Cross) lay poorly; pure egg breeds (Leghorn) lack meat yield.
