Q.Dairy & Homestead Animals
What is the best dairy cow for a homestead?
A.
Jersey is the standard homestead dairy cow — small frame (800-900 lbs), high-butterfat milk (5%+), docile temperament, and family-cow scale. Produces 3-6 gallons per day. Other homestead options: Mini Jersey, Dexter (dual-purpose), or Guernsey. Avoid Holsteins for homestead use — too large, too much milk for one family.
