Q.Dairy & Homestead Animals
What is the difference between a Nubian and Alpine dairy goat?
A.
Nubians are large, long-eared, with high butterfat (4-5%) but moderate volume (1-1.5 gallons/day). Alpines are medium-sized with upright ears, higher volume (1.5-2 gallons/day) but lower butterfat (3-4%). Nubians produce richer milk; Alpines produce more milk. Match to your priority — butterfat for cheese, volume for liquid milk.
Livestock-breeds pages cover both breeds.
