Q.Corn Production

What causes corn to lodge and how do I prevent it?

A.

Corn lodging (stalks falling over) results from weak stalks, excessive plant population, late-season disease, or root damage from corn rootworm. Prevent by planting at recommended populations (not over), choosing hybrids with strong stalk-quality ratings, scouting for rootworm pressure, and harvesting at proper moisture before stalks degrade.

Variety review pages include stalk-quality scores.
