Q.Corn Production

When should I plant corn in my state?

A.

Plant corn when soil temperature reaches 50°F at 2-inch depth and the 10-day forecast looks stable. In the Corn Belt that's typically late April-early May; in the Mid-South March-April; in the Deep South February-March. Earlier plantings (50°F soil minimum) typically produce higher yields than later plantings.

State crop calendar pages cover specific planting windows. Variety review pages cover hybrids by region. Frost-date pages cover spring frost timing.
