Q.Corn Production
What is gray leaf spot and how do I manage it?
A.
Gray leaf spot (GLS) is a fungal disease producing rectangular gray lesions on corn leaves. Severe infections reduce photosynthesis and yield 20-40%. Manage with resistant hybrids (most important), crop rotation away from corn, residue management (tillage breaks down infected residue), and fungicides at tassel for high-pressure years.
Variety review pages cover GLS-resistant hybrid selection.
