Q.Corn Production
When is corn ready to harvest for grain?
A.
Corn is ready for grain harvest at 18-25% moisture, with 23-25% as the typical mechanical-harvest sweet spot. Below 15% moisture risks stalk lodging and harvest losses; above 25% requires more drying cost. Test moisture weekly through October to time harvest. Test weight (pounds per bushel) is the secondary metric — 56 lbs/bu is the standard.
