Q.Soil Health & Amendments

What pH should my soil be for pasture grass?

A.

Most pasture grasses (fescue, orchard grass, bromegrass) prefer pH 6.0-6.8. Legume-grass mixes (clover, alfalfa added) shift the optimum slightly higher to 6.5-7.0 because legumes require pH for nitrogen fixation. Lime acidic pasture soils to bring pH into range — it's the highest-leverage pasture investment most farms can make.

Pasture pages cover pasture renovation; livestock-breed pages cover forage matching.
