Q.Soil Health & Amendments
What does nitrogen deficiency look like in corn?
A.
Nitrogen-deficient corn shows yellowing along the midrib of older lower leaves first, in a V-shape pattern that progresses up the plant as deficiency worsens. Healthy corn has uniformly dark green leaves. The yellowing pattern is diagnostic — N moves from old leaves to new growth as the plant tries to compensate.
Corn calendar and variety review pages cover nitrogen needs and timing.
